It’s amazing what you take for granted. Our short walk from Villa Greta to the village is along the main road through Positano which twists and turns with the contours of the cliffs.
Although that walk is only a few hundred metres you pass some amazing sights – everything from overhanging limestone cliffs to bridges spanning ravines. You also get a feeling for the ability of the Positanese to build anything pretty much anywhere.
I’m not sure if I’ve done justice to the walk but here goes.
- Leaving our place – our rental car and our valuable secure parking space
- Looking towards Positano – the cemetery on top of the hill
- Cliffside villa with a few steps down to the beach
- One of the bridges we cross – note Jean is standing on the footpath – which is also the road
- Looking down a ravine to the sea and a beach
- There is always something to see – just look up or down
- Another view of the cemetery with cliff below
- You can build almost anywhere in Positano
- In New Zealand this would be a Health and Safety hazard – here it’s an opportunity
- Gratuitous Vespa shot
- Casola ceramics factory – run by relatives of our hotel owning family
- Flower pot – not sure the hole was made just for that but you never know
- End of the walk – down to the left to the village, up to the right to our favourite hotel
- This is still the main road – just a very narrow part
- You have reached your destination
- Another gratuitous Vespa shot
What a wonderfully spectacular place! Just looking through the photos calms the mind and evokes the feeling of “wish we were still in Italy!” Hope you are feeling better Jean. Cheers, Murray
Went poking around on Google Earth and followed your walk. Have sent you email as I can’t attach images to the comments here
